Our texture removal &
California knockdown process...

Removing textured ceilings is very commonly requested by homeowners. The two most common, more modern finishes are knockdown and smooth ceilings. Our process for texture removal and California knockdowns consists of 5 steps.

1. Clear the area

Remove all furniture from the room. If furniture cannot be removed they are completely covered with plastic and drop cloths or tarps on all flooring.

2. Soak & scrape stipple off

If the ceilings have never been painted we lightly wet the texture so there is minimal dust. After the water has moistened the texture we use a putty knife to scrap the stipple of

3. Smooth knockdown celings

Once the texture is removed we apply 2 coats of mud to level the ceilings ready for knockdown. For smooth ceilings 3 coats are required. For knockdown we apply the paint before the application of knockdown. For smooth ceilings after sanding is completed, it is ready for paint.

4. Paint smooth ceilings

After all repairs are completed, the smooth ceilings are now ready for paint. We then apply 1 primer coat and 2 finish coats. Usually sprayed on to get a more uniform look. Most customers prefer a low sheen, either a matte or low lustre or satin finish.

5. Clean up

We remove all plastic coverings and drop cloths that we used to protect your furniture and flooring carefully so no debris or dust remains.
